Introducing Jenny

IMG_0588The Music Workshop Company team has grown this year with the addition of our wonderful new Social Media Assistant, Jenny Wright. Let’s meet Jenny and find out about her role…

“I have always been interested in music. From humble beginnings in primary school recorder group and choir I went onto take clarinet lessons and eventually study Music at The University of Plymouth, following that with a PGCE in Secondary education.

Having worked as a Music Teacher for a few years, I decided to take myself in a new direction, and am currently working as an administrator for the School Improvement team at Bedford Borough Council.

With a background in education I was interested in workshops, and feel that they are a great way to spark interest in ensemble playing, so when Maria asked me if I would be interested in working for the company in social media I was very excited.

Music is and always has been a huge part of my life, and I keep busy playing in concert bands, big bands and saxophone quartets. My main instruments are the clarinet, tenor and alto saxophones. I can muddle through on the piano, flute and oboe and I love playing the ukulele! I most enjoy playing big band music on the tenor sax, but generally listen to rock and metal music.”

Pic of me“I monitor and post on Twitter and Facebook for the Music Workshop Company, keeping up to date with music and music education news, events, courses and anything else that’s relevant to what we do.

Social media allows a music education business to connect with potential customers, publishing to a huge number of people. It enables us to see trends and to develop the business accordingly. I’m looking forward to expanding the Twitter and Facebook profiles of the MWC, making more people aware of the blog, newsletter, resources and the wide variety of workshops available.

What excites me most is the potential a message has, especially a tweet, to reach an enormous amount of people from all backgrounds.

For my own Twitter feed, I have a huge interest in wildlife conservation so I follow the RSPB, Simon King and many others. But I would also recommend following BBC Music for interesting music articles.”

Favourite Musical Moment

“It would have to be the East Beds Concert Band Easter concert in 2014. My boyfriend conducted the last piece of the first half, then stood me up and got down on one knee! Very romantic!”Untitled-1
